What is the Thames Water Safety Passport?
The Thames Water Safety Passport is a certification program designed to ensure that individuals working on or near Thames Water sites are trained in health, safety, and environmental awareness. It is a mandatory requirement for contractors, employees, and anyone accessing these sites. To attain one your organisation will need to be registered with SkillGuard and you will need to attend a training course. Once attended your competency will be uploaded to SkillGuard and you can be issued a virtual card.
Who needs a Thames Water Safety Passport?
Anyone who works on or visits Thames Water operational sites, including contractors, subcontractors, and employees, must hold a valid safety passport.
What is SkillGuard for Utilities?
SkillGuard for Utilities is a sector-wide database which holds all necessary training information about site workers, confirming quickly, easily, and in real-time, their competence and authority to work.
Each worker has their own record, which can be accessed via the database or by scanning a virtual or physical smart card via a secure app, live on site. The whole workforce can also be bulk checked in advance of arriving on site, ensuring that all individuals have the correct authority to work and can start work quickly.

How long does it last?
The Safety Passport is valid for three years from the date of training. Upon which the trainee will need to resit the training to keep themselves up to date with any changes.
*CAUTION* Your SkillGuard for Ultilites card may show the card expiry, which IS NOT the competency expiry date, this does cause confusion. SkillGuard are working on this.

How do I check when my Safety Passport Expires?
If you are a user admin you can login to the system and check records of all workers. If you are a site manager you can download the "SkillGuard 5" Spot Checker App. This enables cards to be scanned on site and competencies checked.
